Summer Camp Memories
The indelible memories made at summer camp last a lifetime. Songs, friends, and games mingle with group activities and swimming and hiking to create an experience most kids look forward to all year.
But by far one of the best parts of any camp is receiving a camp care package from home. A great care package does not just have items like insect repellant and band-aids, although including these necessities may be a good idea. Instead, the best care packages include fun, whimsical items that provide amusement and a tangible sense of loved ones at home.
When it comes to deciding exactly what items to include in camp care packages, it is important to be familiar with the camp’s policies. Some may forbid food from being sent while others will want to discourage the presence of electronic devices – after all, part of the goal of going away to camp is to truly get away from it all.
With camp rules and restrictions in mind, it is time to start building a thoughtful camp care package. Start with a disposable camera. It’s a great, inexpensive way to record memorable occasions and special friends. Throw in a small blank book as well so the camper can collect autographs and contact information for fellow campers and counselors. Days at camp are typically busy, but there is generally quite a bit of down time as well. Throw in some Sudoku and crossword puzzle books as well as some Mad Libs for a group of campers to work on together. A deck of cards can lead to endless hours of entertainment, especially when the care package includes instructions for how to play a few fun games like Crazy 8′s and Slapjack. Also include a book of magic tricks, complete with a few pre-packaged tricks the campers can try out right away.
A potpourri of creative items make camp care packages a memorable event. Think Frisbees and water guns, craft-making supplies and magazines. The possibilities are endless and the fun will be too. Care packages are easily one of the best parts of summer camp!
